New E-Bikes Have Arrived
I still remember the first time I rented a scooter in Tampa. I fiddled with the app for a few minutes before I was able to activate a bright green two-wheeler and wobble off. As I careened wildly through the dozens of distracted tourists and locals, I wondered how many minutes I had until I crashed into an elderly wealthy woman in Spanx and designer sunglasses.
Miraculously, I didn’t hit anyone that day, nor did I wind up in the river. But it sure seemed to be an awkard way to get around while surrounded by oblivious pedestrians. There are other options, though. You can rent gold carts, cars, pedal-powered bicycles, tricycles…even alcohol-fueled tiki bars on the water. Believe it or not, there’s yet another option soon to be available to visitors to downtown Tampa. They are called Gen4 e-bikes and they are quite different from the small-wheeled scooters currently seen buzzing around our fair city.
The soon-to-be-submerged-in-the-river vehicles focus more on comfort and ease of operation. One goal of the electric bikes is to allow riders to access the entire city without the hassle of renting, driving and parking a car. The bikes will be available at most of the locations you’d imagine…downtown, Armature Works and other busy areas. As for cool new features, the Gen e-bikes have phone holders, a two-speed transmission for higher speeds and a convenient dash that is exactly like existing scooter dashes, hopefully making operation easier. Each e-bike is expected to last about 5 years. Source: ThatsSoTampa.com
