YouTube is full of videos of people trying to pass themselves off as police officers when they are clearly not. They put lights on their cars, get a badge, carry a gun and even pull people over for “offenses”. It must happen often, because new stories pop up constantly. Today’s fake cop story comes from Naples.
Deputies in Collier County arrested Jack Bowles for impersonating a law enforcement officer. Investigators say Bowles made several modifications to his car to make it appear to be an unmarked police cruiser. They say he then used the car to intimidate other drivers on I-75. The story began back on March 9th, when a Collier County deputy observed a black 2019 Dodge Challenger with antennas and radar devices mounted on the truck lid. The vehicle also had a handheld radio and a laptop that was mounted in the front seat, as law enforcement vehicles often do. The vehicle was observed aggressivley tailgating other vehicles on the interstate. That’s when things got a bit more interesting. The black Challenger then got behind the deputy’s car and tailgated it. After a few moments, the car pulled up next to the deputy and yelled to him that he was a retired police officer. That’s when the deputy showed him a real badge and told him to pull over. As both cars got off of the highway, the Challenger reportedly stopped quickly in front of the deputy, forcing him to stop and get out. As the deputy got out of his car, he said the suspect got out and came toward him, yelling that he was a retired police officer. The man produced an identification card from the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi. The suspect also had a badge from the same agency. A deputy took the badge to examine it, but Bowles attempted to take it back. That’s never good.
Bowles was arrested for resisting an officer without violence. Upon further investigation, deputies discovered that Bowles had never worked for the Hinds County Police Department and was never a certified law enforcement official. That means Bowles was also charged with felony impersonating a police officer. Bowles was taken to the Naples Jail. If you had an interaction with the suspect, you are asked to contact the Collier County Sheriff’s Department at 1-239-252-9300. Source: Fox3Now.com
