An elderly Florida woman was killed by an alligator during an attack at a lake’s edge near Fort Pierce over the weekend. Officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded to a report of an alligator attack at a retirement community yesterday. When they arrived, they found the body of the victim, an 85-year-old woman who had been walking her dog. Witnesses to the attack told investigators that the woman was walking her dog along the water’s edge when a large alligator emerged from the water and attacked the woman’s dog. The woman tried to save the dog by wrestling it away from the gator, but she was bitten during the incident. By the time rescuers arrived, the woman had died.
A spokesperson with GatorGuides.com said alligators are literally everywhere these days, and their population is the highest it’s ever been. He even added that alligators can be in swimming pools or any body of water. Trappers arrived on the scene shortly after the attack and pulled the 11-foot beast from the water. Video of the capture is below. Although attacks by alligators on humans are rare, it pays to know when and where they will most likely be hiding out. Whenever you see an alligator, avoid it and NEVER feed it. If you see a nuisance alligator, report it immediately to the Fish and Wildflife Commission at 888-392-4286. Source: WFLA.com
