Florida Toll Rebate Means Big Savings
Paying tolls can get expensive. If you drive into Tampa everyday or traverse toll roads across the Bay, you know the pain of that monthly expense. But now there’s a plan that could save you some real money. The best part? You don’t have to do a single thing.
It started on January 1st and it’s awesome. Over the weekend, Florida kicked in its new toll rebate program. The new program is built to help people who use toll roads in our area very often. That means anyone who is charged tolls over 35 times in a month will now save some pretty serious money. Commuters who meet the monthly requirements will get a 50% rebate on their charges the following month. The plan was passed by Florida lawmakers unanimously back on December 15th and it was signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis the next day. There are some requirements, though. To take advantage of the rebates, you must be a SunPass or other qualified transponder holder who is in good standing. The program covers most toll roads across the entire state. The program also requires that the vehicle have two axles, so large vehicles (semis, etc.) will not be able to qualify for the plan.
There is no sign-up needed, and the rebates will be automatically applied the following month when you meet the requirements. The program will apply to approximately 1.2 million drivers and save the average commuter about $400 in 2023. The plan is a continuation of a previous law that allowed drivers to save with multiple tolls, but that plan only applied to specific roads and excluded many local thoroughfares. The rebates are expected to save commuters over $500 million dollars. Source: CLTampa.com
