State of Emergency for Pasco and Hillsborough Declared
Tropical Storm Nicole is headed to Florida and a State of Emergency for Pasco and Hillsborough Declared! Are you prepared?
I feel like we have been here before as a State of emergency for Pasco and Hillsborough declared for the oncoming Tropical Storm Nicole. Nicole is expected to be a hurricane here by midweek sometime and is set to strike the East Coast of Florida. Gov. Ron Desantis has preempted a State of Emergency out of abundance of caution.
Nicole is expected to be near the Bahamas Wednesday morning and by that night be on Florida’s doorstep. The path of this hurricane is wildly different then many we have seen as it plans to cut across the state towards Tampa/Saint Pete. After it actually is predicted to return back to the east coast. Weird we know.
Experts don’t believe this storm to be life-threatening in its current form but has the potential for a lot of destruction. If it actually makes it to Tampa and Saint Pete it would most like be a tropical depression some experts predict. The good news for Pasco and Hillsborough is that most of the rain will be dealt to the other side. Be prepared and be safe state of emergency for Pasco and Hillsborough declared! You’ve made it through the wind and the rain. Notoriously, there’s debris and streets are flooded. You’re initial instincts are probably to go outside to take a look at the damage, but that is when most injuries, and unfortunately, deaths take place. From fallen powerline and generator injuries, to car accidents from flooded streets, these are just a few reasons why after a storm is just as dangerous.
What is storm surge?
Storm surge happens when hurricanes start to churn along the coast. The NOAA explains that storm surge is produced by water being pushed toward the shore by the force of the winds moving cyclonically.
Storm surge can be one of the most dangerous aspects of the a hurricane. In the past, large death tolls have resulted from the rise of the ocean associated with many of the major hurricanes. Just last year, Fort Myers Beach saw at least 13.8 feet of storm surge after Hurricane Ian.
