Kelley’s Roast Beef Opens New Location in St. Petersburg
The famous roast beef sandwich shop of Boston’s North Shore is opening its doors for the first time in St. Petersburg, Florida. Kelly’s Roast Beef first franchised in 2020 and brought its first location to Sarasota, Florida in late 2022. Kelley’s began back in the 1950s as a small shack opened by two friends, Kelly’s dubs itself as the king of the “Original Roast Beef Sandwich”, but what exactly makes this sandwich so special? For starters, the meat is slowly cooked in the shop every day ensuring you’re getting it EXACTLY how you want it with that melt in your mouth juiciness. Kelly’s is determined to continue the longtime tradition of bringing you the best roast beef sandwich you’ve ever had. They have been a staple for Bostonians
First, choose how you want your meat cooked – medium rare, medium, well done and anything in between. Next, they pile the meat on top of a grilled sesame seed bun with the choice of 3 different condiments – James River barbecue sauce, mayonnaise, and American cheese. They call this the “three-way”… probably not the three way you’re thinking of.
How did Kelly’s Roast Beef start?
You can thank Frank V. McCarthy and Raymond Carey, the founders of Kelly’s Roast Beef. They named their first restaurant after one of their best friends, Thomas Kelly. Before the birth of their beloved sandwich, McCarthy and Carey were also working at a special events venue next door to their restaurant. Not wanting their spare roast beef to go to waste after a wedding was canceled, they took the roast beef to their hot dog stand and started serving thinly sliced beef on hamburger rolls the next day. The sandwiches were such a success they sold out in an hour sparking the claim to the Original Roast Beef Sandwich!
Kelly’s Prepares For A Florida Roast Beef Takeover
“This is an incredible opportunity and honor to bring such an iconic restaurant brand into a new area of the country and we plan to quickly expand across Southern Florida,” said Ryan Dion, Chief Operating Officer at RAVentures Hospitality. “In 2023 we’ll see double digits for new Kelly’s Roast Beef locations in the Sunshine State.”
