Florida Tuba Player Barred From Beach
I totally ‘get’ Florida man in this case. All the guy wanted to do was to go to the beach, whip out his tuba, and play his heart out every day. According to the Orlando Sentinel, it was working out very well for him until the cops showed up as he walked toward the surf. Turns out, there’s a law against public performances on the beach in Fort Myers. Derrick Nangle, the man who was told to leave the beach with his tuba, is a music therapy major and he loves nothing more than to play his instrument on the beach as he watches the waves come in. He says music totally relieves his stress. A town manager in Fort Myers says that playing a tuba on the beach constitutes a violation of the city’s law against entertainment on the beach.
