Florida Man Dumps 30 Beds On Side Of Road “For The Homeless To Use”
Florida man was just trying to help those in need. That’s why he dumped 30 mattresses and box springs along a city street yesterday.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by Solid Waste Management Wednesday afternoon about a large littering case they had discovered. Thirty used mattresses and box springs were found scattered beside a road. All together, the litter weighed more than 1,700 pounds. That’s almost a ton of discarded trash to clean up. It’s also illegal. Detectives who were assigned to the case determined that the refuse was dumped by a man who had been hired to get new bedding for the Key West Hotel. A manager at the hotel told police that Michael Herrera had been hired to get new bedding for their hotel, while they did not know how the man got rid of the old bedding.
When questioned, Herrera told officers that he dumped the mattresses and box springs in the hope that people who needed them would take them, and that he planned to return the next day to pick up whatever was not taken. Through surveillance video, detectives determined that Herrera never returned to check on the items. Herrera was charged with illegal dumping. Source: WFLA.com
