Deputies Say St. Pete Sushi Restaurant Owner Sold More Than Food
Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department conducted a search of a restaurant over the weekend. But the operation was not for the reasons you’d expect.
The deputies perused the contents of a sushi restaurant at 1:22 am on Friday, looking for evidence of a drug business they say was being run from behind the scenes. Undercover officers say they made several drug purchases from the restaurant’s owner, 40-year-old Hai Thanh Bui, over the course of their investigation. During the weekend search, deputies discovered a safe that contained several substances. Among the many substances found were cocaine, MDMA, Ketamine, Adderall, and Oxycodone. Paraphernalia was also found on the scene, including a digital scale and plastic bags. Bui was carrying the key to the safe that contained the illegal drugs when he was arrested. Investigators also searched an RV that was on-site, finding two rifles and six handguns. Keys to the RV were alo found inside the restaurant.
The current charges are not the first for the man who owns the sushi restaurant. Bui was previously convicted of distribution of MDMA back in 2004, which added to the current charges placed against him. Bui now faces drug trafficking charges, possession of firearms by a felon and possible stolen property charges, as some stolen items were found on the property. Source: WFLA.com
