Metallica Super Fan Creates Lars Ulrich Toilet and its Here in Tampa

Look some fans go out and start cover bands for their favorite artist but this artist and musician decided to make a throne for the man that sits on a throne himself. Prince Midnight decided to take his love for the legendary rock band Metallica and sculpt this epic toilet of the drummer Lars Ulrich.

The artist is known for his art, and you may have heard of him its Prince Midnight, the musician who made headlines when he made a guitar out of his uncle’s bones. Prince Midnight is in the band Searing Torment who will be playing live this weekend at the Brass mug where the toilet will be able to be viewed. The toilets got some national recognition and has already gotten a reaction from Bassist Robert Trujillo. “Oh my god! You’re kidding. This is incredible, how come I didn’t see this? This is a work of art, I want one. Where can I buy em?… I’m sure [Lars will] hear about this when I see him.”When we talked to the creator he told us he’d be more than excited to give it to Lars.

The toilet will be installed at Tampa’s Brass Mug as part of a toilet art show showcasing Midnight’s work on Friday, December 3. Prince Midnight will be playing with Searing Torment if you are interested in how the bone guitar sound (Which you should be!) since he’ll also be playing the Mug that night. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door.

We got in contact with the creator and asked him a few questions about the toilet and here is what he had to say.

• What is it made of and how long did it take to make?

  I sculpted it out of clay and then I bought a ton of fiberglass from the auto parts store. Then I painted it and coated it with an automotive clear coat. It took me a long time, because I was figuring things out as I went. So about several months.

• What inspired you to do Lars specifcally and why not any other band member?

  Well, I’m a Metallica super fan. Been a fan for thirty years, ever since I saw them play on the black album tour in Tampa. Some people have thought I was trying to give Lars a hard time, which is not the case. The band wouldn’t exist without him. He put the ad in the paper looking to start it those many years ago and, by all accounts, helped to keep things together through some hard times.

• Would you of done something else?

  Drummers sit. So, ya an obvious choice when trying to choose a band member to make a sculpture of that is sitting. If I had made a urinal, I would likely done James.
• What are some projects that are in the works for you?

  Share

  Because, the first ep was written almost entirely by me, with two songs arranged by the drummer. To play live I put a band together, and instead of violin we have a guitar player who wrote new parts for the songs and they are very much his own. It’s not a recreation of the ep, it’s the Searing Torment version.

• If the band asked for it would you give it to them?

  If Lars wanted it, I would give it to him. Maybe let us open next time they come through town? We’ll play a short set.
