Octopus Paints Pictures in Tampa
Meet Farallon, the eight-armed painter.
No, the Florida resident isn’t suffering from a disease that causes its victims to grow extra appendages; Farallon is a Pacific Giant Octopus living in Tampa’s Florida Aquarium. A video posted on the aquarium’s social media channels shows Farallon painting two abstract portraits, using its suction-cupped arms to apply the purple and blue paint to the canvasses. Aquarium workers say the octopus took up painting as an “enrichment activity.”
Now the Florida aquarium is offering the paintings to members of the public, according to aquarium officials. Two winners will be selected from the “comments” section under the posted video, they say.
