Two carjackers have been arrested after taking a truck that was left running outside of a Speedway in Brooksville. What they didn’t expect was that there was a passenger left in the back seat of the truck—a boy under the age of 12.

According to deputies, a mother and her two kids pulled up to a diesel pump at the Speedway on Cortez Blvd. just before 9 p.m. That’s when Samuel Rorah, 28, and Toby Barber, 47, jumped in and took off.

The mother and one child went inside, leaving the other in the back seat. Within moments, they say, the two men jumped in and started to take off before noticing the boy in the back seat. Samuel and Toby only managed a few feet before they realized the kid was in the back seat and threw him out before taking off again.

The kid ran into Speedway and told his mom, who quickly called 911 and who found the vehicle and pursued it immediately. Deputies say the driver eventually lost control of the truck then both men tried to run, but deputies quickly caught up with them.

Both Rorah and Barber are being charged with carjacking and resisting arrest. Each remains in the Hernando County Jail, held on a $26,000 bond.
