It’s not going to get crazy cold, but we finally might start to see some (Florida) winter weather. Halfway through December and the Tampa Bay area is finally going to see some colder temps. A powerful storm is sweeping through Tampa Bay on Thursday and sending multiple counties in a tornado watch. Tampa weather guru Denis Phillips says that the storms can continue up till midnight on Thursday. ABC Action News says that even though this specific storm system has caused tornadoes in the southeast, it should not be as powerful when it hits Tampa Bay.
Quite a bit of lightning with this cell offshore of Pasco and Pinellas counties. Nothing like our Summertime storms, but still will be rather squally as the line pushes through. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for the entire area. pic.twitter.com/5s1ewmFQhO

The gloomy weather on Thursday is expected to bring cold and less humid temps on Friday and into the weekend! This means it’s finally going to start feeling like Christmas in Tampa Bay. Our partners at ABC Action News say that we could see temperatures in the Tampa Bay area in the mid-50s or near 60 degrees. This is the perfect time to head to Curtis Hixon Park in Tampa for the Winter Village.
Cold weather has actually become a controversy in Tampa Bay. Some cheer when they see the forecast dip below 60 degrees, others will yell “BOO!” We have a feeling that the real Floridians are happy to have a break from the humidity and welcome the cooler weather. While the cold weather probably doesn’t affect the snowbirds, they’re still probably prefer an 85 degree December.
