Doughnuts and Burnouts Could Become Illegal
How else will anyone know what a sweet sweet ride I have if I can’ do a quick burnout at the light? Doughnuts and burnouts could become illegal though as a Florida Bill has unanimously approved by a Senate committee Wednesday. This bill is mostly aimed at street takeovers as they are popular events almost nightly in Miami Florida. There has been a rise in injuries and deaths which has led senators to want to pass this bill.
Sen. Jason Pizzo, the bill’s sponsor, did gather a bunch of videos of cars doing doughnuts during a street takeover — tires screeching and smoking as drivers went in circles with passengers hanging out the windows and spectators trying to touch the cars. The video did end in a gruesome manner. Street takeovers can involve hundreds of spectators. Cars will block access to an intersection, stopping traffic. Apparently, it has become a widespread problem around the country, including in cities in Texas and California.
The Bill would make these events a misdemeanor with anywhere between a $500-$1000 fine. In most misdemeanors, a law enforcement officer has to witness the infraction to make an arrest without a warrant, but the bill would allow arrests based on a video or other evidence even if an officer doesn’t see it firsthand, Pizzo said. The takeovers are usually planned through Social Media and they will throw the video onto youtube. It’s horrible to think that doughnuts and burnouts could become illegal!
