#1: Miami-Dade (27.5%)
The Miami area had both the largest number of cases per million residents. cases per million residents. Miami also had the most loss of life with 3,408 deaths per million residents.
#2: Lafayette County (25.8%)
If you haven’t heard of Lafayette County, it’s probably because it’s the second-least populous county in Florida. It’s located about an hour southeast of Tallahassee.
#3: Hardee County (22.8%)
The county south of Lakeland includes Wauchula, Limestone and Gardner.
#4: Liberty County (22.2%)
Located to the southwest of Tallahassee.
#5: Jackson County (21.4%)
This northern part of Florida borders Georgia and Alabama.
Sarasota County had the 6th lowest percentage of COVID-19 cases based on their population. Citrus (13.9%), Pasco (14.7%) and Pinellas County (14.2%) were not far behind. If you live in the Tampa area, Hillsborough came in at about 17.2%. [Source: Google/The New York Times]
