Zito’s Beer of the Week: Longboard
All this said and done this beer officially gets the first Pour It Out! For something that looks like a islanders dream I just didn't feel anything special about it. Knowing what I know now I wouldn't bother to pick this up to the shelf even though it's got a decent price to it. it needs something else to stand out as a lager but what that is I don't know. So if you are looking at Longboards on the shelf Pour It Out!
Have you noticed the trend yet? Every week we are trying a new beer in the quest for the best beer. So far, we are on a roll, but this week has an entry that may just get the first negative review yet. Over the last few weeks, we have done IPA’s and a Bleach Blonde Ale, each of has received the Chug It! seal of approval. If this is your first week for my beer review, we have a simple upvote downvote system. If we think this something you should buy for you and the boys, we give it a Chug It! However, if it’s something you buy for your brother-in-law because he thinks he’s so cool it gets a Pour It Out! This week we are looking at a Lager, the first on the list. On this week’s Zito’s Beer of the Week we are looking at the Longboard Island Lager.
If I was going to give this beer a grade on design alone it would definitely pass. I sent my producer out to grab a fresh pack and when he brought it back, I was judging the beer by the design of the label, I wish I hadn’t. However, it takes more than that to get the seal of approval from me. It’s got rather a bland taste if you ask me. It’s not a bad bland but honestly it left nothing to talk about later. The lager boast itself to be a “smooth refreshing lager” and it was smooth but refreshing, yeah i didn’t think so one bit. I passed some over to the guys at the table doing this taste test with me and one of them said he could taste a hint of spice, but I think he was just reading the label.

Some Of The Beers I Tried At The Bolts Brew Fest
The Bolts Brew Fest made a return for the first time since COVID and we were so excited! Beer and hockey are the perfect combo and it was great to be back at the event since the Lightning have become back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions. Amalie Arena was turned into a sea of breweries that were located throughout the concourse and ice floor (no, the ice was not set up for this event.) With so many brewery options around Tampa Bay, this was a great way to sample a little something from everyone and determine where our official next brewery stop would be.
They had a gaming corner set up at multiple areas in Amalie, including a Mario Kart tournament. But no worries, there was no drinking and driving allowed. Men and women could also test their strength at the stein holding competition. Holding a full stein beer glass is definitely a lot harder than it sounds.
There’s lots to see and do at the Bolts Brew Fest. Below is our list of some of the beers I tried while I was there. Each brewery featured at least 3 different style of beers, such as an IPA, Stout, and Wheat or Ale, but to avoid a night by the toilet I didn’t mix too many styles together. They don’t call me Two Beer Ted for no reason! If you’re heading to a Tampa Bay brewery that was featured in the Bolts Brew Fest, check this list to see if their featured beer is worth trying!
