Study Shows How Much You Need To Be Making To Afford Rent In Tampa
A new study from the National Low Income Housing Coalition tells us how much you need to earn to afford in Tampa. It’s no surprise that the housing market has been ridiculously expensive the past few years. Scoping out an affordable spot can be difficult, especially to meet all the standards you need. The report shows us that Floridians need to work at least 2.6 full time jobs at the state’s minimum wage to afford the average apartment prices. The NLIHC reports to earn enough to live in an one bedroom rental home at Fair Market Rent, residents would have to work 86 hours at minimum wage. Who in the world has time for that? The report also calculates the “housing wage” that a full time worker must earn to afford a rental home without spending more than 30% of their income. According to the study, the wage is $26.38 per hour for a two bedroom home.
On top of raising rental prices, the every day cost of living has also increased, making it even more difficult for people to pay their bills. At Florida’s $10/hour minimum wage standards, that’s not a lot of spending room. According to ApartmentList’s latest rental report on Florida, the average rent price for a one-bedroom in the state is up 18.3%.
According to ZipRecruiter, the average monthly income in Florida was $4,488. Inflation is causing everything from the cost of gasoline to groceries to increase. While most families can cut down spending costs, those who are receiving federal funds to assist paying for housing are facing the dangers of eviction.
