Denis Phillips Says Don’t Cancel Your Plans Next Weekend… Yet
Tampa weather watchers are keeping a close eye on that system brewing in the Tropics. ABC Action News Chief Meteorologist Denis Phillips says don’t cancel your plans for next weekend… yet.
In an update posted to his Facebook page today, Denis says it’ll probably be Tuesday when they have a really good idea if this could become Florida’s first named storm of the season. Denis says The Euro model has the system passing east of Florida, sparing us completely. Another (“the GFS”) says it doesn’t even develop at all. But we’re still in that early stage where things could change drastically over the next few days.
But should you cancel your plans for next weekend?
Denis says not yet. If you can wait a few days, that’s what he’d do. He went on to say we’ve got 3 more months of this. (Oh great.) So even if this storm doesn’t develop or have any big impact on the Tampa area, a weekend like this is a good one to prepare and make sure you have all that you need for when the next storm does hit Florida.
As of last night, the National Weather Service out of Tampa Bay said this “disturbed weather” has a 40% chance of development over the next 7 days. They think a tropical depression could form midweek.
As for the coming week, no surprises here. We’ve got a typical late July week of humidity and pop up thunderstorms in store with the temperatures right around 90.
