Cops Arrest A Florida Woman Caught On Camera Stealing Something Fowl
Congratulations Oldsmar… you made the “A Florida Man” news cycle this week. Wait. It’s NOT one of those “A Florida Man” stories this time. Guys you are off the hook. A Florida woman shopping in Oldsmar this weekend was caught on video surveillance stuffing something into her purse. Her score wasn’t the usual shoplifting stuff… perfume, clothing, or anything like that. The video shows the woman snatching… a bird. Yes. A live bird.
How It Happened
8 News Now reports the incident happened Saturday morning just before 10AM. They say doors had just opened at “Everything Birds” in Oldsmar for some kind of event. In the video, you see the woman scoping out the birds in their holding pen. Then after looking around to see if any employees were watching, she reaches in, grabs the bird and makes her way to the exit.
How in 2024 do people still not realize there are video cameras that capture everything? Just because employees may be distracted, you’ve got to have a bird brain if you think there will be no repercussions if you shoplift. PS, I apologize to any birds I may have offended with that last sentence. You all have wonderful, capable brains.
But… It’s just a bird right?
Not so much. Apparently the Black Headed Caique is worth about $2,400! But it’s not just the financial loss the store was worried about. According to the Channel 10 report above, the bird’s safety was in jeopardy as it has to be hand fed and given a special formula. But there’s a happy ending to the story.
A Florida Woman… Identified and Arrested
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office announced yesterday on social media they made an arrest in the case. After the story went viral on social media, someone must have spoken up. 54 year old Grissel Flores Nistal was taken into custody in Largo and brought to Pinellas County Jail.
Nistal has been charged with one count of felony grand theft. Nistal gave the bird back and fortunately the bird was still in good health, according to a press release by the PCSO.
