2 More Systems Firing Up in The Tropics, But Florida Is OK
After the double dose of winds, rain and surge from Helene and Milton, we can breathe a sign of relief. All those social media stories warning us that Nadine is next are junk. Those two systems firing up in the tropics are no threat to us, according to Denis Phillips.
Greg Dee gave this update below this morning. Greg just got the power back this morning. He says when he flipped the switch and the light came on, he almost cried.
Where Denis thinks those 2 systems in the tropics will go
The ABC Action News Chief Meteorologist and our own station’s hurricane guru says that little blob in yellow will cross Central America. The bigger orange one will probably curve away from Florida. If it doesn’t Denis thinks that one will just go into the Caribbean and cross Central America. Denis says if anything changes he’ll let us know, but doubts it will.
It’s great news for Florida. Some are still without power and have been for almost a week. We’re all cleaning up and trying to get back to normal. Gas station lines are becoming reasonable. Slowly but surely the shelves and coolers at Publix are starting to fill back up. The last thing we needed was another named storm to retire.
Schools
Schools in Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Sarasota and Polk counties are still closed. Classes resume for those counties tomorrow. Schools are open today in Citrus, Hardee, Desoto, Manatee, Hernando and Highlands County.
Fuel
For those still in need of gas, there are a bunch of fuel distribution sites set up around the area. You can get up to 10 gallons of gas at Tom Bennett Park in Bradenton, St. Pete College in Tarpon Springs, the East Bay Raceway in Tampa and at Plant City Stadium.
Our weather looks great
Not only are we hurricane-free this coming week, we can look forward to much cooler temperatures. A cold front arrives tomorrow and that’ll bring the temps down to the 50s and 60s Wednesday night into Thursday. Daytime high temperatures will be in the mid 70s. It’ll feel great, especially when you remember what we were going through one week ago.
