Jon Bon Jovi has been very forthcoming about dealing with his ongoing vocal issues. At this point, he still seems unsure if he’ll be able to hit the road for a proper tour again. That being said, if he had to pick one last song to sing live, what would it be?
That heavy question was asked of JBJ in a new interview with Classic Rock. It was a question he even admitted put him on the spot, but he did give an answer that might surprise some fans.
Bon Jovi said, “The first one that came to mind would be ‘These Days,’ which I guess nobody would ever think, but ‘These days, the stars seem out of reach/These days, there ain’t a ladder on the streets/These days are fast, nothing lasts in this graceless age/There ain’t nobody left but us these days’ – I think that sort of encapsulates where I am at this moment in time.”
Details About Jon Bon Jovi and His Vocal Chord Issues
In February, JBJ talked about his vocal issues while appearing at the Pollstar Live! conference. Per Ultimate Classic Rock, Bon Jovi said, “It’s become public knowledge now, but I’ve had major reconstructive surgery in my vocal cords, and I never had anything like this, ever. So it’s been a difficult road, but I found a doctor in Philadelphia who did something called a medialization, because one of my cords was literally atrophied.”
According to the Cleveland Clinic, medialization is when a surgeon ” … places an implant into your paralyzed or weak vocal cord. The implant moves a nonfunctioning vocal cord toward the functioning one to allow for better voicing.”
Bon Jovi’s vocal struggles and more will be addressed in the new four-part docuseries Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story. The docuseries premieres on Hulu on Friday, April 26.
How Will The Bon Jovi Docuseries Address Richie Sambora’s Exit?
The full trailer to the docuseries above seems to hint that Sambora’s sudden exit from Bon Jovi will be dealt with head-on.
At the beginning of the trailer, Sambora says, “I’m excited. Are we telling the truth or are we going to lie? What are going to do?” Later, the guitarist says regarding leaving the band, “I don’t regret leaving, but I regret how I did it.” JBJ is then heard saying, “Nobody expected Richie to quit in the middle of the night.”
Sambora, of course, left Bon Jovi in 2013. At the time, Sambora cited wanting to spend more time with his daughter, Ava, who is now 26. There’s a good chance Sambora will offer additional details about his exit in the docuseries.
The last time Sambora spoke on the potential of rejoining Bon Jovi was in September 2023 on an episode of Shred with Shifty, a podcast hosted by Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett. Sambora said he and Jon Bon Jovi have spoken on the phone about it. He added, “There’s a demand out there for it, you know — especially outside of the USA.”
