Move Over Duckface There Is A New Stupid Selfie Trend In Town
If you’ve been in on the latest trends in selfie pics you have likely heard of the duckface. That’s when you’re taking a selfie and instead of smiling, you curl up your lips to look like a duckbill. Well, that trend is over loser! The new go-to selfie pose for Gen Z girls is “scrunch face.”
Executing this new selfie trend known as the scrunch face is easy. You scrunch your nose, squint your eyes, and flash a grin. It’s supposed to look cute…but do it wrong, and you just look constipated. In fact, often, even when you do it correctly, you still end up looking rather constipated. Check out some examples below.

Scrunch Face Is The New Selfie Trend
Do I expect this trend to last long? No. I do not. Duck Face is an impenetrable force. It’s like Michael Myers in the Halloween movies. You may think you killed it, but then it rises from the dead. My friends, I fear we have not seen the last of the Duck Face. It shall rise again.
However, duck face and the new selfie trend the scrunch face aren’t the only notorious selfie poses that annoy us. There’s also the one where you cover part of your face, the group selfie (aka the Us’ie), the crazy hair lie down selfie, the looking like I’m doing else selfie, the goofy face selfie, the pout, the two hander, and more just to name a few.
All of these ridiculous trends reminds me of one of my favorite South Park episodes, “Faith Hilling.” It’s the third episode from season 16. In the episode, our favorite fourth graders deal with various popular online memes poking fun at celebrities. They include “Faith Hilling,” “Tebowing,” “Taylor Swifting,” and more. It’s a great episode that makes fun of all these trends that doesn’t make sense or look good.
Instead of duck faces or scrunch faces, how about a smile? Remember those? It’s the face you make when you want to show you’re happy or enjoying something. I feel like I never see those anymore on Instagram. We’ve all become too cool. Perhaps one day it shall come back. Until then, we must enjoy the new selfie trend of scrunch face.
