Pinellas County: This Flower Means More Mosquitoes
Pinellas County Mosquito Control is asking residents to assist with keeping mosquitoes away and the illnesses they can bring. They say there’s one particular flower that is a big part of the problem. But there’s a fix.
The fix
If you have bromeliads near your home, keep reading. While they’re beautiful, they hold water. That allows mosquitoes to breed. The good news if you have them is that it’s not necessary to get rid of them. There’s an easy fix. They say just sprinkling BTI granules every couple of weeks can eliminate larvae BEFORE they become biting adults.
What is BTI?
BTI is a bacteria that is found in soil. It’s been in use for over 30 years. A 4 pound jug of them goes for about $20 at Home Depot. If you have any questions, you can reach Pinellas County Mosquito Control at (727) 464-7503. They’ll even come out to your place and service problem areas with a larvicide.
