Rihanna: How Much Did She Get Paid For Her Super Bowl Performance?
The Super Bowl Halftime show has seen performances from of the music industry’s biggest entertainers, from Michael Jackson to Beyoncé and now Rihanna. A question that usually comes up during Super Bowl time is how much the artist will be paid to appear on the world’s largest stage. The answer is simple: $0.
“We do not pay the artists,” an NFL spokesperson told Forbes in 2016. “We cover expenses and production costs.”
According to Men’s Health, the NFL also pays for the travel expenses that the musicians to get to the venue, but no actual checks get written for the performance itself.
The artists do, however, get exposure. Last year’s Super Bowl was watched by 112.3 million viewers, per the Los Angeles Times. This year’s ratings not been released. However, RiRi did have a viral moment when she touches up her makeup using a compact mirror from her Fenty Beauty brand. She also used her new liquid lipstick called “MVP,” which launched online during halftime.
RiRi spoke about how she was getting ready ahead of her Super Bowl performance.
“Nothing would have gotten me out of the house if it wasn’t a challenge like that,” Rihanna told the Associated Press. “You could get real comfortable being at home as a mom, [so this is] challenging myself to do something that I’ve never done before in my career. I have to live up to that challenge.”
“I want to incorporate different aspects of entertainment and things that I just enjoy and bring it to the stage.” She added, “I want to celebrate the music that I’ve made.”
