Florida Cop Dressed as the Grinch Hands Out Onions to Speeding Drivers
Of all the things to get this Christmas, a speeding ticket obviously would be the worst. So instead of giving those out to speeders down in Key West, a Florida Sheriff’s department did something even better. Our very own Florida Grinch handed out Onions to speeding drivers. Monroe County Sheriffs’ department Colonel Lou Caputo took the street in their annual event where they dress up as the Grinch and take on speeding drivers.
They post up outside of a local elementary school and, with radar guns in hand, check for lawbreakers. They work as a team scanning traffic. When they catch someone violating the school zone of 5 miles or less, they will give you the option of taking an onion or taking the ticket. If you go above the 5mph limit, they give you a ticket.
This has been a tradition in Monroe County for over 20 years. It all started when Lou Caputo saw the Live Action Grinch movie with Jim Carrey. He then grabbed the costume and plans to be out there for years to come. [Source WTSP]
“It catches them off guard,” Caputo said. “But when I give them a clear choice of a citation or the onion, they will take the onion. And I’ve had them eat the onion right in front of me.”
12 Days Of Christmas Tampa Version
In honor of 12 days till Christmas, we made a remix to the classic holiday jingle. French hens and turtle doves? More like boat parades and pub subs.
For our version of the classic holiday tune, the “true love” in question is the city of Tampa. We sat and brainstormed all of the unique Tampa things that work for the song. We ended up with way more than 12, we could’ve made a 25 days of Christmas Tampa remix. We wanted to mention the new iconic flamingo at Tampa International Airport, Cuban sandwiches, and so much more.
Here’s our 12 Days Of Christmas (Tampa Version)
