Florida Trying To Stop Robocalls
Whether it’s an extended car warranty or an offer to buy your home, everyone is getting flooded with spam calls. The Sunshine State is joining with other states to put these to an end. Here’s what Florida is doing to stop robocalls and where to sign up for the state-run do not call list.
It is estimated that over 33 million robocalls are made to U.S. citizens every day. These calls have reportedly led to $29.8 billion in financial losses to American consumers in 2021. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody announced the launch of a new Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force. Attorney Generals from all 50 states are taking part in this and the goal is to “investigate scammers operating outside of the United States” in order to cut down on illegal spam calls.
Here’s what you can to to help reduce the amount of robocalls you receive. First, make sure your phone number is registered with the national Do Not Call Registry. Florida residents can add their number to the state-run registry to help stop robocalls. The Florida registry is free and your number is in there without a time limit.
We’re hoping that the actions taken by the states will help reduce the amount of those annoying spam calls which have become a part of our daily lives.
