Florida Is The First U.S. State With “Penis Snakes”
No it’s not April 1. They’re actually seriously called penis snakes. Their scientific name is Caecilian which has some Latin meaning referring to their poor eyesight. And they are now here. What a fantastic ending to 2021 huh?
Scientists have done some testing and it’s confirmed. The legless amphibians were actually found in the Miami area about 2 years ago. They’ve been doing some testing (what a fun job that must be). And lucky us, Florida is now officially the first state in the country to have them. Usually they’re slithering underground or underwater in Colombia and Venezuela, according to Creative Loafing.
They can grow up to five feet long and have pretty bad vision. Not much else is known about them. They are just known to like warm, gentle fresh water. The good news is they pose no danger to us. Nor are they a predator in any way like the invasive pythons in the Everglades. But congratulations Florida. [Source: Creative Loafing]
And if that wasn’t weird enough for you, how about getting a massage from snakes?
Bali Heritage Reflexology and Spa in Jakarta, Indonesia offers a massage treatment with several pythons placed on the customers body. The movement of the snakes and the adrenaline triggered by fear is said to have a positive impact on the customers metabolism. Makes a great gift. Anyone?
