In-Car Smoking Ban When Driving With Children
This state wants to put a stop to people smoking in the car while young children are present.
Ohio is introducing a bill proposing a ban on smoking in vehicles when children ages six and younger are passengers.
According to WXYZ ABC News 7, The measure sponsored by state Sen. Tina Maharath, D-Canal Winchester, calls for a $500 fine for first-time violators of the law and a fine of $500 plus $250 for each additional citation. Dr. Kristie Ross with Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland told WEWS she believes the proposed law makes a lot of sense since secondhand smoke exposure for children sets up plenty of potential health issues.
Several other states have already adopted vehicle smoking bans while children are in cars as passengers.
