The Anti-Masturbation Movement Is Of No Use To You
Iconic sex researcher, Alfred Kinsey, once described it as “the expulsive discharge of neuromuscular tensions.” Yet masturbation is having a moment that is both shaming and troubling.
From the NoFap Movement on Reddit to No Nut November, the trend away from masturbation has psychologists and scientists worried. First off, these so-called “movements” have no scientific basis whatsoever. Second, study after study has found strong links between these movements and a higher risk of depression, anxiety and even suicidal thoughts.
The Benefits Of A Good Wank
It seems like we should all be more comfortable talking about masturbation than ever before. People are so much more open and we know more physiologically about the benefits of it. I mean, believe it or not, there are even masturbation clubs out there where men actually meet up to…well…y’know. But the benefits, from a scientific perspective are vast. Here are just a few:
- It lowers your risk for prostate cancer- A Harvard Study found that men who masturbated 21 times a month lowered their risk of getting prostate cancer by 31%. An Australian study found that if you have a wank at least 4 times a week your risk of cancer is even lower.
- It boosts your mood, lowers anxiety and depression- It’s the dopamine release when you ejaculate that makes your brain relax and feel good. When the brain has a healthy level of dopamine, your mood and motivation increases. You become more excited about life, and more focused. Healthy levels of dopamine can also make you more social and extroverted.
- It can help you live longer! No, seriously. Welsh scientists followed 1000 men for 20 years and they found that the ones who jerked it 2-3 times a week lived longer than those NoFap guys.
- It helps you sleep better-While men falling asleep after sex is a cliche, there are chemical reasons for it that are good for you. In fact, during ejaculation men release a cocktail of brain chemicals, like norepinephrine, serotonin, oxytocin, and the hormone prolactin. Prolactin levels are naturally higher during sleep. Therefore, it’s likely that the hormone’s release during orgasm causes men to feel sleepy.
- Seinfeld says it’s natural- Remember that famous masturbation episode, “The Contest” on Seinfeld? Jerry said, “We have to do it, its part of our lifestyle.” So, there ya go! Talking about masturbation on TV over 30 years ago was shocking, now it’s no big deal. Body positivity, sex positivity, or none of that. It’s all good.
