Man Eats Taco Bell For 30 Days To Change Fast Food Stigma
Stop me if this sounds familiar. A Virginia man said he is going to eat nothing but Taco Bell for 30 days in attempt to prove that someone can maintain a healthy diet while eating nothing but fast food. The concept sounds identical to the 2003 movie Supersize Me, where a man ate nothing but McDonald’s for 30 days, trying every menu item at least once.
Sam Reid explained to a local Virginia news channel that he was motivated to take on this challenge after seeing a news article that claimed Taco Bell is the healthiest fast food restaurants. Taco Bell has changed a lot of the ingredients they used thanks to dietitian Missy Nelson. Since Nelson joined the company, she has removed artificial ingredients and switched to lighter options.
Reid plans on trying each menu item at least once. He believes that eating fast food can actually lead to a healthy diet. He also intends to check up with his doctor frequently during this 30-day “diet.” Unlike the film Supersize Me, where the filmmaker was trying to raise awareness of rising obesity levels and the dangers of fast food, Reid is trying to end the stigma around fast food. “I think that would be really beneficial for people to not demonize what they eat or maybe glorify looking a certain way but it’s more about the relationship that we have with our food,” Reid told WDBJ.
Taco Bell does offer a low-calorie “Fresco” menu, a high-protein “Cantina” menu, and a vegetarian menu certified by the American Vegetarian Association. So it’s true he might have some better options than other competing fast food companies. Taco Bell also allows more customization to their menu items than any other fast food company.
Do you think this well end well for the Virginia Man?
