Hillsborough County School Board votes to require masks.
After a very long emergency school board meeting the votes came in 5-2 to enact a mask policy.
The mandate starts tomorrow, August 19th and is for all students and staff.
A medical opt-out will be allowed but the district will require medical documentation from a licensed health care provider. There were no further details on how this new requirement will be enforced.
For now, this requirement is being enacted for thirty days, through September 17th.
As of Wednesday morning before the meeting began according to Hillsborough County Public Schools:
- 10,384 students, or 4.8% of the total student population, are in isolation or quarantine;
- 338 employees, or 1.4 % of the total employee count, are in isolation or quarantine.
