Believe it or not, there are things you may still not know. Here are the top 10 things you never knew about Vince Neil.
10. In 1998, Mötley Crüe opened a store on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles called, “S’Crüe”, which stocked clothes from Sixx and Neil’s clothing lines (Outlaw and Bad Bones). The store closed in January 1999, with the band deciding to sell the items online.
9. On August 15, 1995, Neil and Ruddell’s daughter, Skylar Neil, died of cancer at the age of 4. He founded the Skylar Neil Memorial Fund in her honor. Neil and the foundation have raised awareness and funding for various children’s illnesses. The Skylar Neil Memorial Foundation has donated millions of dollars to The T.J. Martell Foundation, and it sponsors an annual golf tournament to raise money for children with cancer.
8. In 1989, Neil had a small role for Police Academy 6: City Under Siege. The scene was filmed, but didn’t make the cut
7. In December of 1984, under the influence of alcohol, Neil crashed into an oncoming vehicle, killing Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle and leaving the two passengers in the other car, Lisa Hogan and Daniel Smithers, with brain damage.
It wasn’t until Neil was at the police station that he learned from an officer that Razzle had died.
He thought about how he would never see Razzle again, and realized the circumstances leading to the crash could have resulted in a different series of events, like if the car had skidded at a different angle, Neil would have been killed instead. “I didn’t know how I could face anyone,” he wrote. “His band, my band, my wife. I didn’t know what to do with myself.”
6. Nikki Sixx, who was deep into a heroin habit at the time, owned up to his behavior by saying “Vince was my bandmate, my best friend, my brother,” he recalled. “And I didn’t call him, I didn’t visit him, I didn’t support him in any way whatsoever. I was, as usual, only interested in indulging myself. When I thought about Vince, it wasn’t with pity; it was with anger, as if he was the bad guy and the rest of the members were innocent victims of his wrongdoing.”
5. As a condition of Neil’s release from jail in advance of the trial, he was required to remain sober. Neil said that the other band members would blow marijuana smoke in his face or ask him to pass a plate of cocaine they kept on the plane.
4. While he was in jail and rehab, Neil’s wife, Beth, and the couple’s daughter moved out, leaving him with only his Camaro and a Rolex he had received for staying sober. The Motley Crue singer didn’t see them again for another 10 years.
3. Vince admitted that he had worried that ‘The Dirt’ would turn out to be a low-budget affair, but says that it turned out better than he’d expected. “I was really pleasantly surprised, because I didn’t know if it was gonna be this really low-budget film. Because you can make really bad films very easily. But after the first 10 minutes of watching the movie, I forgot it was about us and I just was enjoying a really good film.”
