5 Christmas Movies To Watch That Aren’t Considered Classics
Are you looking for some Christmas movies to watch that aren’t considered classics? Don’t worry, we have your back.
Having a tradition of watching the same Christmas movies every December makes sense and it’s good to have traditions. However, after you’ve watched all of your go-to holiday movies you might be stuck without anything to watch. Let’s be honest, as great as Elf is you can’t watch it every day in December. While the original Santa Clause movie is certainly a favorite of mine, I can admit there’s a steep and noticeable decline with the two sequel movies. So, maybe you’re looking for some Christmas movies to watch that aren’t as popular. I have watched many and have been left impressed and disappointed. I’ll try to share some of my lowkey favorites with you, some you might agree with and others you might have tried and hated–it happens.
Less Popular Christmas Movies To Watch That Aren’t Classics
Sometimes, you might see a movie receive a poor score on Rotten Tomatoes and avoid it–but there are some enjoyable movies out there with poor scores. Just because critics don’t like a movie doesn’t mean you won’t have a good time watching it. In fact, sometimes a movie can be so bad it ends up being good to watch. I’m sure you’ve experienced that before. Plus, with holiday movies aren’t they supposed to be a little cheesy? Don’t take your Christmas movies too seriously.
This year, Jack Black starred in Dear Santa which only received a score of 24% on Rotten Tomatoes but I liked it! I love Jack Black and he did a good job in this movie. However, the best part of the movie was a surprise cameo by another A-List funny man which I won’t spoil here. I will say that it could be the best cameo in a movie since Will Ferrell in Wedding Crashers. Rarely does a small side character have that much of an impact on a movie, but he steals the show with his single scene. It’s fantastic and if you’re looking for something to watch why not try Dear Santa?
I’m surprised The Christmas Chronicles didn’t take off more than it did. Kurt Russell plays a great Santa, the movie is entertaining, and emotionally heavy. I thought the entire cast was great and it was an excellent movie. It should be a classic but it’s not. I’ll also go on record to say I loved the sequel to A Christmas Story. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did but if you enjoy the original then you’ll get a kick out of the second movie. It’s very nostalgic and hits all the right notes. Looking for a Christmas movie with a horror vibe? Krampus would make for a good watch. Sometimes, the feel-good spirit of the holidays gets overwhelming and a nice scary Christmas movie might be what you’re after and this is a good one. A fifth recommendation of a Christmas movie that’s great but isn’t considered a classic would have to be Office Christmas Party. It’s always worth a laugh and has a great cast including Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston, TJ Miller, Olivia Munn, and some familiar SNL stars.
