Why Did Hertz Try To Charge A Guy With Unlimited Miles $10,000?
Did Hertz try to charge a guy with unlimited miles $10,000 for going over his miles? Doesn’t unlimited mean…unlimited?
A man is now going viral on TikTok after he says Herts tried to charge him $10K after he drove 25,000 miles in one month with his rental car even though he had unlimited miles! Yes, 25,000 miles in one month is a lot of miles and would be incredibly difficult to pull-off but if you have unlimited miles you should be alright!
Hertz Charged A Guy With Unlimited Mileage $10K
Hertz has since apologized for the mistake and it sounds like it was all made right. I guess you can’t blame them for trying to charge after someone drove 25,000 miles in one month. I can’t wrap my head around that. How does that happen? To get from Los Angeles, California to New York City, New York it would take you 2,790 miles. You’re telling me he drove the equivalent of, like, 10 cross-country trips in one-month? That sounds exhausting!
The location of the Hertz were not made publicly available at the time. However, the incident was captured on video and according to The Drive it shows a disagreement over the term unlimited and the conversation between the customer and the employee got pretty heated. Sounds like they were just as mind blown as I am that the customer was able to drive 25,000 miles in one month. They would never expect that–even with unlimited miles.
You can see the heated conversation between the 2 play out on video in a trending TikTok video shared by @lifeisfun3000 below. How would you have reacted in this situation? Safe to say the Hertz manager overreacted a bit by calling the cops on the customer who was proving him wrong. Definitely not a good look! See the video below.
It sounds like all was made right in the end with Hertz apologizing and the man won’t be charged the $10,000 after all. Can’t believe the manager threatened the customer like that! Threatening to arrest him over not being willing to pay a $10K fine that isn’t deserved seems wild! Hopefully they look into that further because that makes it sound like a scam and this customer might not be the first who has been put in that situation. Yikes. Hertz released a statement saying, “Customer satisfaction is our top priority at Hertz, and we sincerely regret this customer’s experience at one of our franchise locations. Per the terms of the contract, the customer will not be billed for mileage. Our franchisee is addressing the employee’s conduct and reinforcing our customer service standards and policies to ensure they are understood and followed consistently across our locations,” per The Drive.
