Is ‘CAT-aoke’ The Next Big Thing Instead Of Karaoke?
Is ‘CAT-aoke’ going to overtake karaoke? It seems like it could if the trend catches on! Have you heard of it?
CAT-aoke is taking over the internet after a unique karaoke session at this year’s International Cat Expo in Cleveland, Ohio. How does it work? Well, instead of singing the lyrics and words of a song you simply meow the lyrics. It’s funny but I could see it getting very old fast.
What Is CAT-aoke?
The Cat Fancier’s Association Cat Show Expo was held in Cleveland from October 12th-13th at the I-X Center. All types of cats were celebrated at the event including famous cats, fancy cats, adoptable cats, athletic cats, and influencer cats, per CFA.
How do they celebrate the cats? In many ways I’m sure–it is an Expo after all. However, one way that people celebrated is now going viral online. They meowed the lyrics to popular songs like karaoke only they call it CAT-aoke. You can see some of the unique examples from the expo below. It seems like they’re having a lot of fun doing it!
You could do any song in CAT-aoke, I imagine. You just substitute any word with “meow” and go with the melody. It’s as easy as that. It reminds me of something the band Guster did back in the day with Carol Of The Meows and other songs. I think it was back in the Limewire days when everyone was downloading music illegally, so they put up their album but catified. All the lyrics were meows and it probably frustrated people trying to download the album online for free. Others, like me and my friends, really enjoyed it and that was our introduction to Guster. Today, they remain one of my favorite bands. You can see some of the examples of those songs below. Clever concept.
Funny idea and now years later it finally seems to be taking off. The people in the video appeared to be having a ton of fun and I bet if you’re a cat person it would be a fun event or possibly even a little getaway. I wonder if they have a similar event for dogs? That would be more up my alley than cats. No disrespect to cats I can still appreciate them but I’ve always been a dog guy, myself. To each their own and hopefully CAT-aoke continues to take off.
