Woman Arrested For Drinking And Driving On An Airport Runway In Oklahoma
A woman was arrested for drinking and driving–on an airport runway! That’s not where you want to be in your car.
We’ve talked about all sorts of ridiculous drinking and driving stories on Dave & Chuck The Freak. Sometimes, it’s for what they’re driving while drunk like an excavator or a lawn mower. Other times it’s about where they were caught allegedly drinking and driving. This time, it’s an airport runway in the state of Oklahoma!
Was A Woman Busted Drinking And Driving On An Airport Runway?
The incident reportedly happened at the Tulsa Riverside Airport. That is not where you’re supposed to be driving and I’m not even sure how you’d manage to get back there! You’d think security would prevent any car from being back there but here we are.
According to KJRH, the Tulsa Police Department received a call about a woman driving a silver Nissan on the taxiways at the airport. Callers reported that she was blocking several outbound planes yet when police arrived on scene they were unable to locate her. The next day, they received similar calls about the same car blocking an airport runway where a plane was attempting to land! That could have been incredibly dangerous for her and those on the plane if she came out of nowhere as it was about to land.
According to KJRH, a pilot saw what was happening and even got out of the plane to attempt to get her to get out of the way. He then reportedly noticed the car was full of beer cans and he says he reached into her car and took her keys from her. That woman has since been identified as Bonnie Campbell and she was arrested for a second offense felony aggravated DUI and she was also taken to the hospital to be treated. KJRH reports that 18 empty beer cars were found inside her SUV, a cardboard box of Coors Light, an empty six-pack, and a garbage bag full of other beer cans. She blew a .34 on the state’s breathalyzer test which is more than 4 times the legal limit, per KJRH.
KJRH reports that Campbell told police she was visiting family who have a hangar at the airport. Jail records show that her home address is in Texas. I just can’t imagine being in my plane ready to take off and then I see a normal car drive by on the airport runway. Part of me would know that’s not right but part might not know if it’s common practice for employees to be driving normal cars around the airport runway or something. You’d never know! Although it sounds like it might have been pretty obvious to onlookers that she was out of place and didn’t belong out there.
