French Museum Welcomes Naked Visitors For Naturism Exhibit
A museum in France is welcoming naked visitors to check out their Naturism exhibit. Sometimes, the best way to understand is to fully emerge yourself in the art.
The Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations in Marseille is doing something very unique by encouraging naked visitors to come view their Naturism exhibit in their birthday suits. Is it a good way to connect to the art? Or is it just an excuse to get naked?
Museum Welcomes Naked Visitors For New Exhbit
Nude art is pretty common. However, naked visitors are not. Now, Marseille’s Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilization is bringing the art to life, in a way. They’re encouraging naked visitors to come discover their relationship with naturism by looking at naked art while being naked themselves. Although it sounds like they have to keep their shoes on, I can understand that as a precaution to avoid splinters and such.
According to The Guardian, the Naturist Paradises exhibition is running in partnership with the French Naturist Federation for one evening per month while the museum is typically closed. So, it’s not like you’ll be visiting one afternoon with the family when a group of nudists come unexpectedly walking around the corner.
Featured in the exhibit are 600 photographs, films, magazines, paintings, sculptures, and otehr forms of art from naturist communities in addition to public and private collections in France and Switzerland, per The Guardian. The museum tells The Guardian, “France is the world’s leading tourist destination for naturists: its temperate climate and the presence of three seas have facilitated the establishment of communities, which–with the exception of Switzerland–have few real equivalents elsewhere in Europe, where naturism is practiced more freely, outside established communities.” I had no idea France was so big on being nude. I must have missed that during the 2024 Paris Olympics. I would have thought places like Greece or Italy would be the more nude-friendly countries.
You really don’t hear about these types of things domestically here in the United States. Maybe one day we’ll take some inspiration from them and have more nude events stateside. It sounds like a very unique experience. One source even points out that it would be odd to show up clothed to the event. I guess at that point you’re just a voyeur instead of a participant and it might come off creepy. Would you be interested in something like this? Or should it stay over in Europe?
