Dave Navarro Talks Unreleased Music with Taylor Hawkins
Dave Navarro briefly formed a group with Taylor Hawkins and Chris Chaney, which was appropriately called NHC after the bandmates’ initials. In September 2021, NHC announced their existence and shared two tracks: “Feed The Cruel” and “Better Move On.” They would later drop another double single release and an EP in February 2022 called Intakes & Outtakes.
On March 25, 2022, Hawkins died suddenly at the age of 50. As a result, NHC was basically done. However, Navarro tells Rolling Stone that there is unreleased music in the can.
“We have a completed mastered album, but this might be a little soon,” said Navarro. “I don’t really know where that stands, but I’ll tell you that I really believe that it deserves to come out, because that record to me, really showcased what a brilliant all-around musician Taylor was, because he wrote most of the songs, played the drums, and sang them.”
Navarro also touched on the grief he experienced following Hawkins’ death. He noted that he didn’t pick up a guitar for a long time after Hawkins died. Navarro referred to Hawkins’ death as “one of the more painful losses in my life.”
Shortly after Hawkins’ death, Navarro was also struggling with the effects of long Covid. His initial bout with Covid was in December 2021. However, he was still dealing with long Covid symptoms in September 2022, and it led to him backing out of a Jane’s Addiction tour.
At that time, he released a statement saying, in part, “I had hoped for a full recovery by October, but I am still very fatigued and will not be able to join this leg.”
Fortunately, it appears that Navarro is finally in better health. Jane’s Addiction recently kicked off a tour with its original lineup, and they released the new track, “Imminent Redemption.” A complete list of their upcoming tour dates is below.
