Bret Michaels To Play St. Pete During Grand Prix Weekend
Florida Poison fans will get a chance to see Bret Michaels when he returns to Tampa Bay in March. The rest of the band members C.C. Deville, Rikki Rockett and Bobby Dall aren’t going to be there. But if you’ve seen Bret Michaels’ solo shows at Tampa Bay Rays games or at Busch Gardens over the past few years, you know he brings the full Poison concert experience.
The show will be a part of this year’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. The performance happens Saturday, March 9 after the racing ends. Head to the festival fairgrounds on the south plaza near the Mahaffey Theater to see the concert. Bret will no doubt perform Poison’s biggest hits like “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” “Nothin’ But A Good Time,” “Talk Dirty To Me,” and his cover of “Your Mama Don’t Dance.” While a lot of bands from the 80s tend to try to force their new music on you, Bret always delivers the hits. He’s all about giving the audience what they want.
There will be an opening act but that announcement will come later, according to a press release from the Firestone Grand Prix. Tickets are on sale now at GPStPete.com. If you just want to see the concert, you can buy a single day ticket instead of the 3 day version most race fans will buy. A general admission ticket for just Saturday is $45. The 3 day weekend pass is $70.
Poison was last in the area a couple summers ago for The Stadium Tour. Although Motley Crue and Def Leppard headlined that day, it was really Poison’s performance that stood out to me. Crue and Def Lep just kind of went through the motions on stage. But Bret still brings the big energy and shows a genuine love for performing after all he’s gone through with his medical challenges over the years. By the way, don’t be surprised if you see Bret at a Tampa Bay Lightning game while he’s in town.
