Joe Perry Waiting Things Out in Sarasota
We have lots of rock royalty living among us here in Tampa Bay. If you think you spotted Aerosmith’s Joe Perry lately, it might very well have been him. In an interview, he tells WBUR that this whole coronavirus pandemic has been his first vacation in 30 years. But he also compares it to a world war, given how it’s shut everything down. Perry came back to his beachfront condo in Sarasota in March, where he and his wife self-quarantined early. He says he didn’t wait for the government to tell him to do it. In fact, he’s surprised at how some Floridians have reacted: “I was really amazed to see people who are saying their lives are being trodden on because they’re told they can’t go to the beach.”
Since coming back to Florida, Perry says life really hasn’t changed much. He and his wife weren’t big on going to the movies. They like getting take out. They head to the store about once a week to get food and that’s about it. He’s pretty content with this life until the threat from the virus passes. Perry says it’d take “a lot” to get him to get on a plane right now to go play a show.
