Tom Brady celebrates as he is reflected in the Lombardi Trophy after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV at Raymond James Stadium on February 07, 2021 in Tampa, Florida. The Buccaneers defeated the Chiefs, 31-9.

We are all hanging on every word TB12 says when it comes to his thoughts on playing again next year for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Everyone’s got an opinion on what they think Tom Brady will do. But no one knows for sure except Brady himself. Here are his quotes over the past few years on the topic. See if you can read between the lines.

  • Speaking to reporters after Sunday's Bucs loss to the Rams...

“I haven’t put a lot of thought into it,” Brady said. “So, you know, we will just take it day by day and kind of see where we are at.”

  • Being comical about playing until he's 50...

Answering a question from a fan “Can Tom Brady play until he’s 50 years old?”

“Wow. I don’t find it so difficult. And plus in Florida, it’s kind of a retiree state so I feel like I can play and then just glide into retirement. I think I can. I think it’s a yes.” –

  • Talking to Extra TV about making the decision with the Bucs team in mind...

“I think it’s gonna be hard to walk away whenever I decide to walk away because it’s been a huge part of my life for a long time. I love thinking about it. Football is more than just a sport. There’s a physical element. There’s the emotional part. All those things I’ve found ways to evolve at different times so that I can maximize my potential.”

  • Speaking about family time... and how it pains his wife to see him get hit...

“I felt for a long time, I could play until I was 45 years old. I think I committed to say, ‘Hey, I’m going to play till I’m 45.’ And this year I’ll be 44, which naturally takes me to the next year. I’ve got a two-year contract. We’ll see what happens beyond that.”

  • Speaking to reporters at a Thursday Night Football game...

“I really think I can play as long as I want. I could literally play until I’m 50 or 55 if I wanted to. I don’t think I will obviously. My physical body won’t be the problem. I think it’ll just be, I’m just missing too much of life with my family.”

  • About how he feels physically after Sunday's loss... can he physically still go?

“I feel great. Physically, I feel great.” But what does that mean about his mental state?

  • On how the decision isn't just his...

  • Tom on his podcast if how this season ended is reason enough to come back next year...

“I would say I’m proud and satisfied of everything we accomplished this year, so I know when I give it my all, that’s something to be proud of. I think I leave it with everything that I have. I have things happening outside of football that require some time and energy.”

  • The answer to the question might be in this video...

So will he retire or won’t he? This tweet makes a lot of sense.  But we’re just going to have to wait and see.

  • Tom's latest statement he posted to Instagram today...

I understand that at this stage in my career, there is going to be interest in my future whenever a season ends, but this week, all that is on my mind is the gratitude I have for this team and the fans that have supported us all year long. This year has been incredibly rewarding personally and professionally and I am appreciative of everyone who worked their ass off to help our team achieve so much.

I always want to win, I think that’s pretty apparent by now, but that doesn’t mean I equate losing to failure, especially when you go out fighting the way we did.. There’s so much to appreciate in a season like this when you’re surrounded by a team that believes in each other, and plays for the people standing on either side of them. I’ll spare you the Man in the Arena quote, but that feeling is something that I promise I’ll never take for granted. To everyone that was a part of it this year, thank you. I love you all!
