A sign of the times? A change is coming this season to The Tampa Bay Lightning games at Amalie Arena. Twitter has been buzzing today about a rumor the team is getting rid of its cheerleaders known as “The Lightning Girls.” That’s not entirely true. In a statement from the team, The Bolts Blue Crew will combine the talents of both the Lightning Girls and the Bolt Brigade. Tryouts will be held September 8 at AMALIE Arena. They are encouraging “actors, performers, hosts, emcees, athletes, dancers, cheer squad members and in-field marketers” to apply to be on the Bolts Blue Crew.

Lightning CEO Steve Griggs said in the statement: “In continuing with our mission, the Bolts Blue Crew will serve as an extension of the team’s brand in the community, at live events and at AMALIE Arena for all home games. We are continually evaluating and looking for ways to elevate our fan engagement strategies and live event experiences and are excited about this new and energetic group of spokespeople.”
