Perry Farrell Called ‘Worst Frontman I’ve Ever Worked With’ By Porno For Pyros Bandmate
Perry Farrell is going through…something. We’re not exactly sure what, but in light of attacking guitarist Dave Navarro on stage and Jane’s Addiction canceling their remaining tour dates, it isn’t great. With all of this in mind, it makes recent comments from former bandmate Martyn LeNoble certainly eyebrow-raising.
LeNoble was a founding member of Porno For Pyros, the band featuring Farrell and drummer Stephen Perkins following the first breakup of Jane’s Addiction. In since-deleted tweets originally published on September 30, LeNoble delivered a blistering take on Farrell. He began (h/t Louder Sound), “I can say, unequivocally, that Perry has been the worst frontman I’ve ever worked with. Always a kind word, followed by sh-tty actions. The fish rots from the head down. I still don’t understand how he channeled some of those great lyrics and vocals on the first two Jane’s records.”
LeNoble says he’s worked with his fair share of “difficult” frontmen and among them were Mark Lanegan, Scott Weiland, Layne Staley and Dave Gahan. Compared to Farrell, he called the aforementioned singers, “All kinder, better, and more talented.”
LeNoble added, “Perry doesn’t show up for rehearsals, sound checks, writing, etc. He jumps in late with sh*tty lyrics. Some I had to tell him were terrible. Unprepared, wild eyed, not present, high. Motherf*cker does it over and over again.”
LeNoble ended up deleting his tweet but added in another tweet, “Deleted my posts. There was no need for me to pile it on. I hope PF gets help.”
From what has been shared publicly, it sounds like Farrell is getting the help he needs. On September 21, Farrell's wife, Etty Lau Farrell, shared via Instagram, ” … As you know, Perry is the gentlest of souls. We are equally astonished at Perry’s physical outburst as you are – but you must know that Perry must had been pushed to his absolute limit.. to that end we apologize.”
She continued, “We are taking a bit of time to ourselves, to reflect and to heal. Perry already has appointments with an otolaryngologist and a neurologist. If you know and love Perry well, you know there’s no need for me to address the other false narratives. Our souls know.”
Etty added, “With all of your love, kindness, compassion and support, you know, Perry will persevere.. He will recover. He will be happy again. He will once again be able to share his music, vision and artistry – unbridled.”
