Did An Oregon Ambulance Run Over A Biker And Stick Him With The Bill?
Did an Oregon ambulance run over a biker and stick him with the bill? That’s what it sounds like!
At least they were friendly enough to give the man a ride to the hospital (since they were right there and so close to the scene). You would think if you’re hit by an ambulance that you’re not going to have to pay for anything but that doesn’t appear to be the case here. They ended up billing the man for the ride to the hospital that they were allegedly responsible for! Now, the man seems to be taking the matter to court.
Oregon Ambulance Runs Over A Biker And Leaves Him With The Bill
The 71-year-old cyclist was reportedly hit by an ambulance that made a right turn directly into him leaving him with a fractured nose and scrapes along with several other injuries. Now, he’s filed a $997,000 lawsuit against the ambulance provider after it picked him up, drove him to the hospital, and then billed him for the service, per Oregon Live.
William Hoesch, 71, ended up being billed $1,862 for the ambulance ride to the hospital. Not to mention the roughly $47,000 in medical expenses he’s already racked up and there’s an additional $50,000 of medical costs expected down the road. That’s a lot of money! According to the lawsuit, Allstate Fire and Casualty Insurance Co. is obligated to cover any damages that Columbia River Fire & Rescue are unable to cover. According to Oregon Live, Hoesch was biking through Rainier in Columbia County back in October of 2022 when the ambulance and him were traveling in the same direction and it made a right turn crashing into him and destroying his bicycle. It sounds like it happened right in front of the Columbia River Fire & Rescue’s Rainier station in which the ambulance was just returning from a trip. Thankfully, the ambulance was going at a slow speed it sounds like but it still caused a lot of damage and sounds like they never saw him and he didn’t think it would make the turn.
According to Oregon Live, the lawsuit also seeks $900,000 for pain and suffering, he states he suffered decreased range of motion, reduced grip strength, and other symptoms following the crash. Hopefully he’s able to fully recover and get back up on his bike soon. Seems like they should be willing to cover the fines seeing as they are at fault, but that’s just my opinion. Of course when you’re looking at paying that much money you’re going to try to find a way to not pay it. Just seems ridiculous to try to stick him with the bill! What do you think?
