Lakeland Area Has Biggest Population Growth In The Country
It’s not your imagination. New info from the Census shows that Polk County is among a small handful of areas with the most growth in the country. The New York Times reports that big urban city populations are dwindling for the second year in a row. Lakeland-Winter Haven tied for 2nd in terms in a list of the top 10 fastest growing metro areas in 2020. The only area with bigger growth was Austin, Texas. Lakeland tied with Boise City, Idaho with a 2.7% uptick in population.
The big cities where people moved out the most? The big 3… New York, LA and Chicago. The mid-size cities with the biggest population dips included Worcester, Poughkeepsie, Baltimore, and New Orleans. A few big cities did see a jump, including Providence and San Diego. [Source: New York Times]
