It’s not that surprising that Florida was ranked as one of the top 5 states with the worst drivers. We have a lot of factors that contribute to our crazy roadways. There are the different driving styles of out of state tourists, older folks, and young drivers who can’t stay off their phone. Speeding, tailgating, and failure to obey signs and laws are a few other factors that contribute to car accidents.
A study conducted by SmartAsset ranked all of the states with bad drivers. They evaluated three metrics to determine the states with the worst drivers. The first metric was the percentage of insured drivers within the state. The next metric was the number of DUI arrests per every thousand drivers. The third metric was the number of fatalities per 100,000 miles driven.
SmartAsset found that 5 out of the top 10 states with the worst drivers were located in the South, and Florida listed at #4. Which is not too surprising considering we see a lot of fatal accidents and road rage instances in the entire state.
