Tourist Loses Both Hands In Turks And Caicos Shark Attack
A tourist in Turks and Caicos lost both of her hands in a shark attack. Now, the government is warning people not to try grabbing sharks to get a selfie.
You would think that would be obvious, but there’s always someone who doesn’t get it. People seem to go to great and often dangerous lengths to get selfies. You’ve heard stories about people falling from cliffs, getting swept away by water, and now someone who was attacked by a shark all in the name of trying to get a selfie for social media. It sounds like the woman tried engaging with the 6-foot shark so she could get a selfie and things didn’t end up going as she had planned.
Tourist Loses Both Hands After Trying To Get Selfie With A Shark
According to The New York Post, the 55-year-old Canadian tourist in tried to take a picture with the shark while swimming in Turks and Caicos and it ended up biting her. That’s why you don’t mess with sharks! Especially in their territory and home! They are much more comfortable and familiar with being in the water than we are, so you probably shouldn’t mess with them. Now, this woman is learning that the hard way.
Reports say her husband saw what happened and jumped into the water to try to scare the shark away. Eventually, she was freed from the shark. She ended up having to have one arm amputated below the wrist and the other halfway up her arm, per The New York Post. She was flown back to Canada to receive additional treatment. Now, it’s been confirmed that it was a bull shark that bit her. The beach in Turks and Caicos was shutdown after it happened but did reopen on February 9th.
Shark attacks happen in the water, but you don’t want to instigate and bring it on yourself like she did. She probably would have been just fine if she didn’t try to engage with the shark to get a selfie.
