Book Rescuers Mega Bookstore Opens, Brings 100K Used Books to Largo
Book Rescuers owners George and Sarah Brooks, who reclaim more than 10 tons of books per week from the trash, said their store appeals to people who love good books and good bargains — paperbacks sell for $2, hardcovers for $3, and CDs, DVDs, and vinyl records go for only $1.
“We are blessed to be the hosts of this important mission and grateful to have a location that we can tailor to the needs of the community that has pushed us to be able to do so,” the Brooks said in an interview for the website St. Pete Rising.
Although Book Rescuers is still in its soft opening stage, the Brooks are planning a grand opening celebration in January 2025, once all their inventory has been relocated to Largo.
The couple has gone out of their way to make their new space feel much like a home. Cozy nooks and areas within invite guests to read, relax, and indulge in a full coffee and tea bar and craft beer.
With the new location and related expenses, the Brooks are seeking financial support from the Largo community and have launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $60,000. Donors have contributed more than $25,000 to date.
Book Rescuers is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Follow Book Rescuers on Facebook and Instagram for upcoming events and store information.
