Distracted Driver Crashes Into Classic Car Totally Destroying It
A distracted driver crashed into a classic car completely destroying the 1948 Jaguar XK120! It was struck by an Opel sedan.
How many times have we been warned now about distracted driving? There are new laws to try to stop it and the fines are getting heavier and heavier. There’s a reason law enforcement is trying to stop distracted driving–it can be incredibly dangerous. You can hurt yourself or someone else on the roads. Or you could end up destroying their classic car because you were texting. It sounds like that’s what happened here! The incident happened across the pond in Austria.
Did A Distracted Driver Total A Classic Car?
Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured in the crash. However, the classic car was absolutely totaled in the crash. The culprit? Reports are saying it wouldn’t have happened if the driver wasn’t texting.
According to The Drive, 2 Italian drivers, Giuseppe Cerbone and Nicolo Bottini Bongrani, were driving through Austria in a beautiful British Racing Green 1948 Jaguar XK120 as part of a Millie Miglia warm-up. If you aren’t familiar, that’s an open-road motorsport endurance race for classic and vintage cars where they drive 1,000 miles. Now, it’s going to be very hard for this Jaguar to compete in the series after the crash. It doesn’t appear to be in peak driving condition anymore.
According to The Drive, they were driving down a road when a woman going in the opposite direction was reportedly distracted by her phone and crashed into the vintage Jaguar. The Italian drivers were a bit bloodied up in the crash but were apparently okay and unharmed. Video taken after the crash shows the group of people arguing in Italian before seemingly switching to English. They appear to be blaming her being on her phone for the accident and she can be heard saying, “I’m sorry.” Her car, an Opel Insignia, also seems to have been totaled in the accident. Wow! Looking at the damage you would think the people in the car would have been badly injured but that does not appear to be the case. They all seem fine, frustrated but fine. You can hear one guy blaming her being on the phone for causing the accident and he does not seem happy. At one point it sounds like she can be heard apologizing which her insurance company will certainly note.
