Cat Custody Dispute Causes A Gunfight In Lakeland
How much do you love your cat? Most people answering this question will say they will do anything for their fur baby, but would you actually do ANYTHING? Would you get into a gunfight over your cat? Because that is exactly what happened in one city in Florida. This cat custody dispute caused a gunfight in Lakeland.
The Story
The Lakeland Police Department was called to 815 Gilmore Avenue on Sunday after pedestrians heard shots fired. When police arrived, they found one man and four women were responsible for the gunfight. The reason? The ownership of a cat.
According to Lakeland police, the one man and two women showed up to the residence of two women demanding a cat. The situation escalated when one of the suspects forced one of the females to come outside. This caused all 5 individuals to get in a physical altercation.
During the physical altercation, one of the suspects grabbed a screwdriver to use it as a weapon. This resulted in one of the victims going back inside their residents and retrieving a shotgun. The victim then shot “Warning shots” at the suspects, which caused the suspects to retreat.
The 3 suspects that showed up to the residents were arrested. two of them were charged with battery while one of them got charged with battery and aggravated assault. Luckily, no one was shot in the incident, but one victim was taken to the Lakeland Regional Health with non-life-threatening injuries.
Fighting over a cat is ultimately a futile and unnecessary conflict. At the end of the day, the focus should be on ensuring the pet’s happiness and care, not on who “wins” ownership. Fighting over a cat only detracts from the joy and companionship that pets bring into our lives. Instead of getting a new cat, now you’re sitting in jail with no cat.
